Foot Care

Many seniors will develop some kind of a problem with their foot health as they age.  These foot problems, which can lead to a change in mobility, put seniors at risk of further injury, as well as a hindrance to their independence and overall well-being.

Diabetes, arthritis, circulatory diseases can be major contributing factors to poor foot health.  Other concerns with feet include: hammertoes, blisters, bunions, corns and calluses, ingrown toe nails and fungus infections, to name a few.  These conditions can also be related to lack of care for feet, mobility, and poor fitting footwear.

Foot care is a key part of overall health for seniors.   Seniors can take some simple steps at home to proactively take care of their feet including:

  • Checking your feet daily for cuts, bruises, sores, infected toenails and swelling
  • Washing your feet daily with warm water
  • Not allowing your feet to soak for more than 10 minutes
  • Moisturizing your feet to keep your skin soft
  • Wearing comfortable socks and shoes
  • Being active every day (when possible)
  • Taking care of your toenails

For seniors who needs a little help in caring for their feet, medical grade foot care is an excellent option.

At House Calls, our foot care nurses are LPN’s who have experience working with seniors.  Our LPN’s perform medical grade foot care, focusing on foot health, while prioritizing strict infection control policies.  Foot care can be done in the comfort of your own home, or in our House Calls salon.
