Our Home Care Services
Diabetes is a condition that affects how your body uses food for energy. When you eat, the carbohydrate found in most foods is changed into a type of fuel called glucose. Glucose circulates in the blood and is the major energy source for the body. In order for cells in muscles and other tissues in the body to use glucose for energy, a hormone called insulin is required. Insulin is produced by the beta cells of the pancreas, a gland located deep in the abdomen partially behind the stomach. When you have diabetes, either the pancreas does not make enough insulin, or the body does not respond to the insulin that is made. Sometimes, a person with diabetes can have both of these problems. When insulin is not doing its job of moving glucose into the cell, glucose builds up in the bloodstream and tissues, and is excreted in the urine. When this happens, the body loses its main source of fuel.
Individuals requiring assistance with glucometer checks, insulin administration or nutrition teaching will find the nurses of Melody’s House Calls helpful and educated about Diabetes.
When it comes to medications, many of our clients find it difficult to remember when, what and where. Our caring staff is able to assist in administering medications as per doctor’s orders. If you require assistance with medication administration, please call as this is a very individualized service.
Palliative Care & 24-Hour Care Available
Palliative care is the special care of a person whose disease cannot be cured. Palliative care provides comfort and support to the person and family. Palliative care does not hasten or delay death. The main goal of palliative care is to treat symptoms and minimize pain for the individual. It is also to support the client and family emotionally as they travel this difficult road. Melody’s House Calls has staff trained to support families in this way. Please call for more information.
Caring for a loved one can often take a toll on the caregiver. At Melody’s House Calls Home Nursing we offer respite relief for caregivers in your own home. Whether it be for one hour or one week, our staff are available to meet your needs. Please call to discuss 24-hour care.
